Mixing: Normac NR-9600 is supplied in premeasured kits, 1 to1 by volume. Mix Part A thoroughly before use, then add about 1/3 of Part B, mix well, add another 1/3 Pt. B, mix well, then add the remainder then mix well. Allow to stand 15 minutes before use. Mix well again then begin application.
Metal Preparation: See Normac Surface Preparation Guide for further reference otherwise grit blast to a minimum 50 micron (.002” or 2 mils) minimum profile to a minimum near white finish SSPC10, Nace No.2, Swedish Standard 2.5, British Standard BS4232 Second Quality.
Application: Normac NR-9600 is designed to work best at a dry film thickness of between 6.25 and 12.5 microns (0.25 to 0.50 mils). Application methods include brush, roller or spraying. To achieve a 6.25 microns (0.25 mils) dry film thickness apply at 55 to 60 microns (2.2 to 2.4 mils) wet film thickness up to 12.5 microns (0.5 mils or 0.0005”) dry film thickness applied at 110 to 115 microns (4.4mils or 0.0044” to 4.6 mils or 0.0046”) wet film thickness. For spraying use either siphon feed or pressure pot systems or airless spray. For siphon spray use fluid tip 0.70” with atomizing pressure at or 40 to 50psi (276/345 N/m). For spraying with pressure pot use 15 psi (102 N/m) fluid pressure, atomizing pressure at 15 psi or (102 N/m). For airless spraying use a 30 to 1 pump with 12” fan/.013” spray tip. Apply at even, 50% overlap single spray passes at right angles to the surface 8 to 12” (20 to 30cm).
Cleaning: Use Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) for cleaning the spray equipment.
Drying Times: Normac NR-9600 requires 4 to 6 hours drying time at 65 to 75°F (18 to 24°C) prior to handling or topcoating with Normac NR-9500. Articles primed with NR-9600 can be left up to 7 days prior to topcoating with NR-9500 – protect parts primed with NR-9600 against weather, direct sunlight, oil and grease etc.
Good air flow or ventilation helps the NR-9600 dry faster. Low temperatures and high humidity slow the drying process.
Overcoating with NR-9500: Normac NR-9600 must be overcoated with Normac NR-9500 to obtain adhesion of Normac solvent based and 100% solids Polyurethane and Polyurea Sprayable Coating Systems. Normac 9600 must be absolutely dry before applying NR-9500 over it. Once the Normac NR-9600 has dried for the proper amount of time apply the NR-9500 according to its application and data sheet. |
